Lucknow: The UP government will start offering vocational training in 13 state-run foster homes to empower women. The government has instructed the Department of Women’s Welfare and Child Development to start compiling a list of female prisoners with their qualifications and backgrounds.
About 725 women are expected to benefit from this move. Director, Department of Women’s Welfare and Child Development, Manoj Rai said: “We are looking at various options to improve the skills of inmates. We have started noting the focus areas of women staying in foster homes to empower them. They will be trained in groups and will have the opportunity to earn a living.
The skills development department will prepare a training plan for the selected groups and request the general managers (neighborhood industry center) to start the job training.
Shelters are located in Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Mathura, Etawah, Varanasi, Ayodhya, Moradabad, Meerut, Prayagraj, Kanpur Nagar, Bareilly (two refuges) and Agra. In a related development, the Yogi Adityanath The government has also taken the decision to create new shelters for women. While Moradabad will get another, new centers will spring up in Ghaziabad and Ghazipur.
Similarly, four new observation houses for children will be created in Raebareli, Kanpur, Mirzapur and Chitrakoot.
A 50-bed shelter for homeless children was also sanctioned for Agra.
