Former Greenwood teaching assistant and basketball coach charged with sexually assaulting student

NEILLSVILLE- Clark County prosecutors charged a former Greenwood basketball coach and teaching assistant who sexually assaulted a student.

Dylan M. North, 25, of Eaton, faces two counts of sexual assault of a student by school staff and one count each of incitement to childhood and exposure of a child to harmful material. Clark County Circuit Judge Lyndsey Brunette set bail at $500 in a hearing Thursday. North’s next court appearance is scheduled for April 26.

In a criminal complaint, prosecutors say that on Oct. 21, a Clark County Sheriff’s Detective spoke with the mother of a 16-year-old girl she said was exchanging messages with North on Snapchat. The mother said the messages were of the boyfriend-girlfriend type and that the daughter was in a relationship with North.

The girl told the detective that she and North were close friends but did not go anywhere together or date, according to prosecutors in the complaint. She said she would send North a photo every day on Snapchat, but denied that anything sexual happened between them.

Detectives spoke to several witnesses, one of whom said the 16-year-old would “hang around” after football games and end up in North’s car, prosecutors say in the complaint. Other witnesses described how North repeatedly followed them on social media and asked them for inappropriate photos. A witness told investigators that North asked her on Snapchat to be his girlfriend and asked for inappropriate photos once a week for about seven months, until she blocked him.

The 16-year-old later admitted she and North met in her car after a volleyball game, the two of them kissed and North touched her inappropriately , according to prosecutors in the complaint. She said North asked her if she had taken nude photos but did not ask her.

The teenager said she and North met on another occasion in her car and also once at her home after a football game when her parents were away, where the two had sexual contact, according to prosecutors in the complaint. She said they stopped meeting after Oct. 15, when a witness reported them to the school office.

The detective also spoke to a 17-year-old girl who said North asked her on Snapchat to send things “adults shouldn’t see,” prosecutors allege in the complaint. She said she sent him photos that were mostly of her breasts, and North sent her photos of her genitals.

Greenwood School District Administrator Todd Felhofer said Detective North served as the district’s basketball coach from 2015-2020 and special education assistant from August 2019 until November 4, when the district put him on paid leave. North resigned from his position with the district in January.

If convicted, North faces up to 40 and a half years in prison.
