ABRSM Launches Composer Mentoring Program “Writing For Music Education”

From September 2022 to February 2023, the program is specifically looking for composers who are underrepresented in the music and music education sectors, and there are two places in the program for a composer with a disability and an LGBT+ composer.

Eligibility

ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, a UK examination board) seeks composers with a particular interest in the world of educational composition who:

  • already compose
  • Are based in the UK for in-person activities
  • Have a good level of written and spoken English
  • Can engage in program activities (details below)

Program Highlights

  • 1:1 mentorship from established songwriters
  • Network with ABRSM and their music education partners (including National Open Youth Orchestra, National Children’s Orchestra, National Youth Jazz Orchestra, National Youth Choirs of Great Britain, London Music Fund and Royal Philharmonic Society)
  • Grow your profile and connect with other emerging composers
  • Develop skills in composing a brief
  • Possibility of work on order

The mentorship program is free and financial support will be available to cover the expenses of in-person activities.

Disabled and LGBT+ composers should submit their CV and a short expression of interest to [email protected] by Friday July 8.

Alternatively, you can submit a short video application of your CV and expression of interest. Video entries must be submitted as a downloadable or shared link. Please do not submit video applications directly or embedded in an email.
